You’re in good company
“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. (Luke 6:22-23)
Reading this verse causes me some conviction. I’m remembering back in my middle / high school days, how my friends and I treated some of the “good kids.” The good kids were the ones who dressed neat, got good grades, and stayed out of trouble.
Funny how it turns out, as those kids were the ones who went on to become successful in life. I’m pretty sure our group ended up working for some of those “good kids.” Good thing they didn’t hold a grudge!
But it made me think, why were we mean to those kids? I think it was because they represented what was good and right, and our group was anything but good and right. So, we hated the good kids.
That’s what the Apostle John was talking about when he wrote this:
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. (John 3:19)
If you’re reading this, then it’s a good bet you’re a follower of Jesus Christ. And it’s also a good bet that someone, at some time, has hated you, ridiculed you, or excluded you because of your faith.
Don’t let it get to you; you’re in good company! The great prophets of old were not welcomed, even by their own people! Jesus had a great following, but in the end He was abandoned by all, and crucified. All of the Apostles were persecuted.
And, Jesus is giving you a promise: You’ll be rewarded in heaven!
We can change the world, one life at a time…
