Walk in Your Anointing – Luke 4:18-19
Scripture reading for this week: Luke 4:13-30
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
I believe one of the most powerful truths that Christian often overlook is the fact that when we came to Christ, we were joined with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:17 tells us:
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (1 Cor 6:17)
To be “joined” to Christ means that the Spirit of God that takes up residence in us at salvation makes us one with the Spirit of Christ. And if we are one with Christ, we share the same power:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)
Jesus was referring to the fact that after His resurrection, He would return to the Father, and He would send the Holy Spirit to the church:
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7)
Why does this matter?
Because if we are one with Christ, then we not only share the same power, we share the same mission that Christ was given: To proclaim the good news of the gospel!
Just as Jesus was anointed to proclaim the good news, to proclaim liberty, to open the eyes of the blind, to set free those who are oppressed – We too have been anointed by the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent to us, for the same mission:
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
So Christian, the next time you look around at all of the sin and evil in the world, and you feel like you can’t make a difference, I urger you to reject that thought, because it’s a lie.
The truth is that you’ve been anointed by the Holy Spirit of God to continue the ministry of Christ; To be a witness to the world.
Walk in that anointing.
We can change the world, one life at a time…
