The Most Popular Verse in the Bible
Question: What is the most popular verse in the bible?
Most people would say it’s John 3:16 “”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
But according to an article in the Christian Post, that’s no longer the case. The most popular verse in the bible today is
“Judge not, and you will not be judged” (Luke 6:37)
Apparently “judge not” has become the rallying cry of today’s culture, and anyone who dares to hold a biblical view will be labeled “judgmental.” “Your Jesus tells you not to judge me… so don’t judge me man!”
It’s interesting that when the words of Jesus seem to support their cause, then people want to follow Jesus… but let’s ignore all that other outdated, judgmental stuff in the bible!
I say “seem to support their cause” because, in my humble opinion, Jesus isn’t at all telling us that we should never judge. Let’s look at the context:
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:37-38)
Jesus is telling us that how we treat others, good or bad, will be measured back to us. See, I can’t sit in judgment over how other people live their lives, Jesus is the only righteous judge. But if I need to make a judgment about something, I need to make sure I’m doing so with the right heart, and that I’m judging righteously.
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” (John 7:24)
