Tammy Ritter was born in Raleigh, NC, and accepted Christ in church at six years old. Yet, by the age of twenty-three, family trials, life’s disappointments, and wrong choices brought her to the place of admitting herself into an outpatient drug rehab program. Broken, divorced, and desperate for change, she surrendered her life to God with the heartfelt plea, “Lord, if you’ll help me get free, I’ll live for you forever.” Her love for the Word of God sprang from a deep desire to know Him, and to change the course of her life. God placed on her heart that if she would become a student of His Word, He would transform her from the inside out.
Her teaching ministry began 30 years ago, teaching a five-year old Sunday School class, then home-schooling her four children, and eventually leading and teaching the Bible to women of all ages. Since moving to Wilmington in 2001 with her husband Clay, Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel of Wilmington, Tammy has faithfully taught over 30 Bible Studies to women, emphasizing the need to abide in the Word of God, to get to know God, leading to an intimate, love relationship with God.
Tammy has the unique ability to reach women in a bold and personal way, challenging them to seek and trust God. Her authority comes from the Word of God, which she continues to study zealously; her passion stems from a life that has been touched by pain, as well as victory, and her practical application of scripture springs from a willingness to ‘keep it real” with God and others. Clay and Tammy are blessed with four amazing children, Carmen, Chelsea, Chandler, and Carrington, and daily praise God for twenty-seven years of marriage. Together, they enjoy dating over a good meal, coffee on their screened porch, relaxing on the beach, home improvement projects and décor, an occasional “get-away” trip, power walks, and most of all, worshipping and serving God by each other’s side.
