Relax In Jesus Part 1
“Then Jesus said, “’Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’”
Somehow the word “relax” is not a word we think of when we think of Jesus and His life and ministry on earth. Yet, there are many scenes of His anointed life where we see Jesus being relaxed and at peace, even in the midst of the storms and trials of life.
A book I read recently, “Your Best Life In Jesus’ Easy Yoke”, reminded me of this:
- When it’s time to launch his public ministry, Jesus is unhurried and goes to the desert to pray for forty days (Mark 1:12-13).
- When crowds interrupt his retreat, he patiently feeds them (Mark 4:32-44).
- When he’s in a small boat at sea and caught in a life-threatening storm, he naps (Mark 12:13-17).
- While being tortured to death, He lovingly ministers to everyone around him, even his enemies (Luke 23:34,43).
Coming from a person like myself, whose middle name should have been “Intensity” and for whom relaxing is an ongoing challenge…I want to share what God is teaching me. Jesus asks us to come to Him to find our Rest. This rest is not just a physical rest, but a spiritual rest in the midst of life’s storms and daily challenges. This biblical REST is something that the believer can have only when we abide in Him and His Word abides in us. The Abiding word “meno”, used in John 15, means “to stay”, “remain”, in other words, the branch is to remain connected to Jesus Christ, the vine.
On Monday, we will talk more about John 15 and how to RELAX in Jesus by ABIDING. But for now…
are you coming to Jesus for your rest or have the storms distracted you?
Are you coming to Him trying to please Him with “to-do’s” or are you coming to please Him with your presence and let His presence please you?
Come to Jesus for your true rest and relax in Jesus!
