Misery Loves Company
This week’s reading plan: Luke 5:33-39
And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.” And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?” (Luke 5:33-34)
Have you ever noticed that people who are unhappy can’t stand it when you’re happy? If they see you rejoicing, enjoying yourself in the Lord, they’ll immediately put a legalistic trip on you to bring you down. Misery does love company.
But what they fail to see is that even if they succeed in robbing you of your joy, they’ll still be miserable!
Jesus responds to these negative Pharisee’s with a simple truth: How can His disciples be down when they have Jesus with them?
And the same applies to you: How we can we be down when we have Jesus? Our past is forgiven, our present is in His hands, and our future is secure!
Saints, don’t let anyone rob your joy… keep your eye’s on Jesus, set your heart on His love for you, set your mind on things above, and keep your lips singing His praises.
And who knows, you might even brighten up the day of a Pharisee.
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord. – Psalm 27:6
We can change the world, one life at a time…
