Abundant Hope Now!
Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Yesterday we learned three things about Godly hope: 1) what is was versus worldly hope, 2) that we can and should be filled with it, and 3) that we are so filled that we overflow with this hope, thus spreading it to others. Let’s see two last points today.
4. In Christ alone:
Clearly, we see Hope lives within us by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. It is not a natural hope, but a supernatural hope. Interestingly, it is as if biblical hope is outsourced to God Himself. As I abide and seek Him 1st with my whole heart, being purposeful and intentional in nurturing my relationship with Jesus, I am outsourcing the REFILLING and MAINTENANCE of the hope within me to God. I don’t have to work for it, strive for it, or try to keep it myself; instead I simply seek God 1st and through Christ alone my hope remains abundant and unwavering!
In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my life, my strength, my song.
This Cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love,
What depths of peace,
What fears are stilled when
When strivings cease.
My comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
5. Available NOW:
Lastly, my friends, this verse tells us one final nugget of truth. The verse begins with another key word. Now. Very interesting! I think that when the Bible says “now”, God simply means “now”. It’s as if God’s heart for us is that biblical hope in Christ alone is for the ALL who are in Christ, Now!
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
Nor will they say, “Look, here it is! Or “it’s over there! For the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21
Clearly Jesus wants us to know that we may have His hope Now, this very moment in time. His hope was not intended just for the future, when Christ returns, and not for when the current trial we are in is over, but Hope through Jesus Christ NOW.
Do you live and walk in God’s HOPE today? If not, you can go to Him today, and allow Him to fill you with His abounding hope by the power of the Holy Spirit NOW. And may His joy and peace be ours today!
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2
